Social media destroying children

Social media is destroying our children

Social media is not only destroying our children, it is also destroying complete families. It all started with the fun times, Facebook, Twitter and Myspace.

In the beginning it was fun to be connected with your friends and family through these platforms. You could share pictures and stories with friends and family far away and feel more connected to them. Those were the good times.

Those good times are long gone for a lot of families and friends. The more connected we became, the more anti social we grew somehow. What was supposed to be a good social thing, turned into a anti social nightmare for a lot of people.

Several studies have shown over the years that 1 in 3 divorces are the result of social media disagreements between partners. Also, a 2010 survey by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) found that four out of five lawyers used evidence derived from social networking sites in divorce cases, with Facebook leading the chart.

These numbers are brutal! Some of the studies I mention are even from 2010 and 2012. That probably means the numbers are through the roof by now.

When using Facebook for example, everybody knows now that the first persons looked for are ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends. This makes the one partner jealous and suspicious of the behavior of the other partner. This causes instability and arguments within relationships and apparently the results are fights, arguments and finally divorce in many situations. Doesn’t sound very social to me , does it?

Social media destroying families

Children are most in danger.

Our children are the ones that are most in danger at this moment. With Instagram, Snapchat and Tik Tok it is a whole different world out there.

The bullying through these platforms is also through the roof. Parents have no idea what their children are up to on their devices and what they are being fed by media and friends.

Most children are more than addicted to their devices and social media apps and almost all of the (regular) users have lost all social skills and are not more than zombies when on their devices. They are on it when they wake up, on their way to school, during school, after school and until deep in the night.

Children addicted to their devices

Our children are at the greatest risk here. Sleep depravation is a great threat to the health of children and their wellbeing. These ” social ” media apps are not much more than crack or heroine. Try taking the device away from these children and you will see what I mean with crack or heroine, cocaine.

Our children have lost all social skills and most of them can’t even have normal conversations anymore when they are in company of other people. When years ago children would beg and fight to play outside, now they will fight if you want to take them outside.

If nothing is done about this and nothing changes, we will run into and are already running into huge issues with the mental wellbeing of these children that will be grown ups at one point.

It is not a secret that Bill and Melinda Gates and Mark Cuban have limited the screen time of their children. No cellphones at the dinner table and not until they were 14 years old. Mark Cuban even paid his son to not watch Minecraft videos and would reward him if he would watch math videos.

In the meantime, our children are hooked on the never ending Tik Tok videos and Instagram feeds of others. They are gaining nothing from it while destroying their social and mental capabilities. A whole generation with divorced parents because of social media addicted to social media.
